Man cuts off his arm to save himself from bear

In Thailand, a Swiss resident cut off part of his arm to escape from an aggressive bear. The Bangkok Post reports.

A Himalayan bear attacked 32-year-old Stephan Claudio Spekonyu, who was working as a volunteer in a reserve in Chiang Mai province. It happened while the predator was foraging. As soon as the man put his hand into the enclosure, the bear suddenly grabbed it.

Spekonya took out a knife and cut off his hand at the elbow to save himself. People who witnessed the incident gave him first aid and took him to hospital. The victim was later transferred to another medical facility for surgery.

Bats have taken over the dormitory of a major university

In the United States, pest control specialists removed dozens of bats from a University of Georgia dormitory. This was reported by WOKV television.

For the first time, students at the large university located in the city of Athens reported the presence of bats in the building on 14 January. The animals were spotted on the stairs. The university’s press office explained that they had entered the building through several holes in the roof and occupied the attic.

Specialists captured and removed the bats and sealed the holes through which they had entered the building. Nevertheless, on Thursday 25 January the bats reappeared in the stairwells and frightened the students.

‘I’m really worried about it. – stated student Cooper Mattox. – You don’t want one of them to bite you.’ The pest control team found about 30 more animals under the roof rafters. They had started to make their way into the corridors of the dormitory and some had even crawled through the doors into students’ rooms.

17-year-old keen angler catches 113kg fish

In the US, a teenager from the state of Florida has caught a giant fish and broken his own record. Fox News reports.

Isaac Francis, 17, was fishing with friends on a beach in the city of Sarasota when he caught the biggest fish of his life. With the help of his friends, he managed to pull his catch ashore. It turned out to be a guasa weighing 113 kg.

According to Francis’ father, his son called the catch a stroke of luck. However, according to a relative, the teenager had been an avid angler from a young age and was able to catch the huge fish thanks to years of fishing experience.

The world’s largest goldfish has been caught

The world’s largest goldfish has been caught in the Australian city of Perth. This is reported by 9News.

The fish was caught by biologist Dulan Herath. Its length was 52 centimetres, almost five centimetres longer than the world record. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it previously belonged to a 47.4 centimetre goldfish caught in the Netherlands 21 years ago.

Goldfish, once released by aquarists, have proliferated in Perth’s waterways and are causing serious damage to the ecosystem. ‘There is a mass of food resources, there are tadpoles, there are plants, soft-bodied plants that they feed on, and there is plenty of room for them,’ – Herath explains.

Mysterious pregnant creature with golden eyes turns out to be new species

Scientists have discovered a new species of frog in southern Australia. This is reported in the scientific journal Zootaxa.

The group of researchers several australian university bada population litoria ewingii (litoria ewingii) – tree frogs or quaking, common in the south of the country. During their research, they realised that these frogs all make the same distinctive whistling sound, but differ in colouration. After careful analysis, the Kangaroo Island tree frogs were found to have distinct differences. Ich DNA differs from blood o six per cent, have distinctive silver ubar, brown belt on the back and size average for scrappers – 4,3 centimeter length. They have squat bodies and golden eyes, and their long and slender hind legs are coppery-pink.
