Choudhary explained that if you chase the feeling of sadness away from you, it will not go away. But if you let it stay, it will soon begin to diminish. The psychiatrist also advised identifying the exact cause of sadness. She pointed out that for some people Christmas reminds them of the loss of a loved one, for others it triggers painful memories and associations related to the past, others suffer from negative comparisons with others and disappointment in themselves.
Once you have identified the cause of the emotion, you can talk about it with yourself in a compassionate way, as if you were talking to a friend. Remind yourself that it is OK to grieve. Tell yourself that comparisons are distracting and put social media aside
